Public hearing and comment period held for Empire Electric rate change request
Empire District Electric Company has filed an application with the Kansas Corporation Commission requesting an annual increase in gross revenues of $2.5 million or 15%. For a residential customer using 1,000 kWh of electricity a month, the proposed increase would be approximately $19.99 per month. The increase would affect all of Empire's 9,670 retail customers which includes residential, commercial, industrial, port authority and street and highway customers.
The KCC held a public hearing on the proposed rate increase on March 28, 2019 at Columbus Unified High School in Columbus, Kansas. Public comments were accepted through June 14, 2019. A Commission order will be issued on the matter on or before August 29, 2019.
