Public Hearings & Comment Periods

The Commission welcomes and encourages public input on utility rate and siting cases and proposed rules and regulations. There are two ways for citizens to participate in the formal regulatory process. The first is to attend a public hearing. The second is to submit a comment during the open comment period. Public Hearing held on proposed merger of Westar Energy and Kansas City Power & Light
Westar Energy and Great Plains Energy, the parent of company of Kansas City Power & Light filed an application wtih the Kansas Corporation Commission to merge as equals. If approved, KCP&L and Westar will become wholly owned subsidaries of a new parent company and serve more than 1.5 million customers in Kansas and Missouri.

A public hearing was held on the request on January 22, 2018 at 6 p.m. at the Washburn Institute of Technology in Topeka. Those unable to attend may watch a recording of the hearing using the link below. Public comments will be accepted through 5.p.m. CDT on March 29, 2018.

Public Hearing on proposed Rules and Regulations (K.A.R. 82-4-3a) scheduled for March 6
This existing regulation adopts relevant portions of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations which establish hours of service requirements for commercial motor vehicle drivers. The proposed amendments include language that adopts the new federal requirement of electronic logging devices for certain carriers.

A public hearing will be held on the proposal on March 6, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the Commission's First Floor Hearing Room at 1500 S.W. Arrowhead Road in Topeka.
