Public Hearings & Comment Periods

The Commission welcomes and encourages public input on utility rate and siting cases and proposed rules and regulations. There are two ways for citizens to participate in the formal regulatory process. The first is to attend a public hearing. The second is to submit a comment during the open comment period. Scheduled Public Hearings and Open Comment Periods

Public Hearing scheduled on proposed merger of Westar Energy and Kansas City Power & Light
Westar Energy and Great Plains Energy, the parent of company of Kansas City Power & Light have filed an application wtih the Kansas Corporation Commission to merge as equals. If approved, KCP&L and Westar will become wholly owned subsidaries of a new parent company and serve more than 1.5 million customers in Kansas and Missouri.

A public hearing will be held on the request on January 22, 2018 at 6 p.m. at the Washburn Institute of Technology Main Conference Center, 5724 SW Huntoon, Topeka, Kansas. Those unable to attend may watch the hearing live on the KCC website. Public comments will be accepted through 5.p.m. CST on March 29, 2018.
